WHO disinfectants, sales stop from October 7th, 2020

In the past few months, pharmacies & distilleries have produced large quantities of disinfectants. Special regulations made it possible to produce individual recipes which, under normal circumstances, are not permitted in Germany due to their poor tolerance.
The bottlenecks in disinfectants have now largely been overcome. The general decree of the BAuA of April 9th, which made this possible, expires on October 6th. The ruling replaced the need for qualitative approval for the German market. The retailer was responsible for checking the quality. New regulations apply from the following day. Part of the changes is the deletion of the use of 1-propanol. For the first time for reasons of quality assurance, manufacturers now also have to specify precisely what quantities they produce and how they import. A distinction is made between WHO recipes for surface disinfection and hand disinfection. You can find alcohol-free hand disinfection for optimal workplace hygiene here!
Due to the spread of the coronavirus, the demand for hand and surface disinfectants has increased dramatically in the past few months.
At the beginning of the pandemic, the basic substances of the WHO prescriptions were sometimes missing. Pharmacies and distilleries are currently still allowed to manufacture certain disinfectants themselves. The Federal Office for Chemicals approved this with a general decree. However, this only applies until October 6th, after which the new general decree comes into force.
WHO prescriptions as surface disinfectants may no longer be sold from 07.10.
WHO recipes for surface disinfection and with the additional note surface disinfection may no longer be sold from 07.10. Previous stocks may of course be used up. This only applies to customers. The goods may not be sold. However, it should be noted that there is no material incompatibility for leather, plastics, plastic and other materials. Serious damage is to be expected. Often there is an alcohol intolerance to the material. The general decree of April 2, 2020 on surface disinfection expires on September 30, 2020. The following formulas listed below are exclusively reserved for hand disinfection. Use as a disinfectant for surfaces is not permitted. A combined claim for hands & surfaces is also not available. No new general decree on surface disinfectants has been issued. The Federal Government does not consider further exemptions to be necessary. This means that the WHO recipes for surface disinfection are completely eliminated.
WHO hand disinfection is still allowed despite many intolerances.
After this October 6th, it is still possible to manufacture hand disinfectants based on WHO prescriptions. It will not expire until next year, on April 5th. If the general decree is not extended, it means that the manufacture of WHO disinfectants is no longer permitted. Quantities that have already been produced may then no longer be sold. 1- Propanol, on the other hand, is no longer permitted as an ingredient from October 7th.
As an emergency solution for the winter. Alcohol severely dries out the skin, but it can still be used.
The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) has issued the extended general decree. This should ensure the availability of hand disinfectants even in the winter months. The extension of the emergency solution is justified as follows: “Currently […] more new cases are recorded again and – depending on numerous, still uncertain factors – it must be expected that the number of cases will continue to rise. In addition, companies that are open to the public and public institutions are increasingly starting their operations again and the use of public transport is increasing. In addition, after the decision of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, the schools returned to regular school operations after the summer vacation. ” It should be added, however, that especially in the winter months, dry indoor air and cold temperatures place a heavy burden on the skin and respiratory tract, Additional stress on the skin from alcohol-containing vapors and alcohol preparations can lead to organ damage or short-term reduction in performance. We recommend alcohol-free hand disinfectants to all professional users to protect against irritating vapors and cracked skin.
Undenatured ethanol
The alcohol tax exemptions for the production of disinfectants with tax-exempt, non-denatured ethanol currently apply until the end of the year. This period has not yet been adapted to the period of validity of the new general ruling. As a result, a significant increase in the price of industrial alcohol disinfection products can be expected. The previous price advantage, which arose from heavy deductions in terms of compatibility, is no longer applicable.
The general decree of the BAuA still only applies to the production of the following recipes for hand disinfection:
If these are also advertised for surface disinfection, your approval will expire.
